Climb this challenging trail from Conrad Meadows to the spectacular viewpoint at the top of Bear Creek Mountain. Early in the season Bear Creek Mountain Lookout Trail usually has some snowfields to cross. Some years they persist well into August. Keep your eyes open for large wildlife all along this route; elk are common. From the Conrad Meadows trailhead, at 4,040 feet elevation, climb the Bear Creek Mountain Trail northwest through the small lodgepole pines. As you climb, open areas offer views of broad, green Conrad Meadows. The route crosses the Goat Rocks Wilderness boundary 0.5 mile from the trailhead. The trail is braided in spots above the wilderness boundary as it climbs a rocky ridgeline. A mile and a half into the hike, the trace makes the first of six switchbacks.
