This fun hike is a local favorite and is only minutes from downtown Bend. The route winds through ponderosa pine and Douglas fir forest along the banks of picturesque Tumalo Creek in Shevlin Park. This route is very convenient to downtown Bend and is very popular. You’ll begin by hiking through a stand of shimmering aspen trees and then crossing rambling Tumalo Creek. After crossing the creek you’ll walk up a short hill on some switchbacks to the top of the ridge.

Shevlin Park is a great loop hike with low difficulty, good distance, and great proximity to the heart of downtown Bend. The 5-mile loop can easily be walked in under 2 hours, with barely any elevation changes to speak of other than the initial hill climb. It is an ideal trail for summer because a large portion of it is not exposed (though make sure you're protected against mosquitoes). It's not much of a fitness walk, but the proximity of the creek and the openness of the area make it an exhilirating way to spend two hours. Follow the trail signs as there are some semi-confusing intersections, and make sure you take the left-most singletrack trail when you reach the five-way right after the bridge! Also, this is not the ideal trail if you love solitude; be prepared to run into multiple runners/bikers sharing the trail.

Shevlin is a great park near Bend Oregon. If you don't have enough time to do a bigger hike or mountain bike ride, this is a great alternative. You might also consider Phils Loop.
