The drive along the northernmost part of Interstate 15 in Idaho suggests nothing so much as a flat, dry, windswept, uninteresting landscape. Many travelers doubtless see no reason to stop or even slow down. They’d see the reason if they pulled off the highways and hit the back roads. Eastern Idahoans know this country, around Medicine Creek west of I–15 and Kilgore east of it, as some of the state’s best undiscovered camping territory.
The landscapes, the fishing, the hunting—this is one of the premier places in Idaho not yet found by the crowds. Just be aware of the relatively short warm season: This is high country. Even most of the locals have headed south by around Thanksgiving. The campgrounds in this eTrail include: Birch Creek, Medicine Lodge Creek, Stoddard Creek, and Steel Creek Group Area.
