Timing is everything. The flower show begins as the snow melts, and as the snow melts, trails in this region are also popular with motorcyclists. However, the northern section of the trail is closed to motorcycles between October 1 and June 15.
Views and flowers begin as soon as you step out of the car, so be sure to bring a map and flower guide. In late May, I saw balsamroot, glacier lilies, and lupine, but more flowers will bloom in June. Overall, there are more than fifty-five varieties of wildflowers to be found here.
