Rising impressively above the Wilson River canyon, Kings Mountain is the star attraction along a growing network of trails in Tillamook State Forest. The challenging hike to the top rises quickly from dense rain forests near the river to view-packed wildflower meadows at the summit. It is an experience that will thrill not only hikers who enjoy the intense greenery of Oregon’s famous forests but those who prefer to look down on that greenery from above.

Extremely steep. Good training climb. Make sure to bring layers, and gloves. Did this climb (I call it a climb because it's more that than a hike) in early April and there was a foot of snow at the peak. Wear good boots! Enjoy it.

We had picked this time to climb Mt Stuart but got weathered out by the coldest rainiest, foggiest week in August that I remember. So we did low altitude hikes and rock climbs instead. Had never done King's Mountain before. We caught a perfect 3 hour window (rain before, rain after). 2 hours up, 1 down. Pleasantly steep, great views, interesting cliffs (our dog was a tad too interested). Not for the casual hiker.
