This is an easy, extended walk along the entire length of Big Creek, a first-class fishing stream that knifes through the heart of Frank Church–River of No Return Wilderness. In addition to fishing, hikers can gawk at the canyon scenery and watch the abundant wildlife. Snow usually blocks the road to the upper trailhead until late June or early July, so even though the lower parts of this trail are open as early as April, accessing the trail at that time requires either taking a long float trip down the Middle Fork Salmon River or hiring a bush plane to fly you into a remote airstrip.
