Picture-postcard views across the Columbia River Gorge to the snowy cone of Oregon’s Mt. Hood are the rewards of this pretty drive. On a good native-surface road. But watch for fallen rock in the roadway. There also are many blind curves on this serpentine road. Bear Creek Road climbs steadily into the mountains north of the Columbia River Gorge, passing through stands of replanted timber. Looking south into Oregon, you will see the tip of Mt. Hood. Mile 12.7 will find you at Triangle Pass. Turn left there, onto road 68, and soon you will have a view across the river gorge. About a mile from the pass is a large pullout, where you can stop for a bit to gaze out at Mt. Hood.
