Although the route passes logged areas, it does wind among deep, forested valleys and high ridges that provide fabulous views of the Olympic Mountains and, in the distance to the east, the Cascade Range. Much of the route follows a U.S. Forest Service auto tour that explains the area’s logging history, wildlife and vegetation at 10 stops. On a mix of asphalt, gravel and dirt.
