Ever wonder what a glacier-carved valley looks like? Wonder no more, because the Phelps Creek valley is a classic U-shaped valley that was scraped, shaped, and buffed by an ancient river of slowly flowing ice. The broad dished-out bottom of this valley cradles vast wildflower meadows nestled below sky-scraping ridges topped with rocky crags and spires.

This is by far, my favorite place to go! We had beautiful weather, the bugs were almost non-existent, and the views never cease to amaze me and inspire me! This area does get highly used though. We saw lots of hikers this weekend. We spent an entire afternoon just wandering around in Phelps Basin above the meadow. It was wonderful! We discovered an old mine. I would love to learn more about that if anyone knew the history there. I highly recommend this hike. Karen in Cashmere
