Sure, you can make this route in the Pasayten Wilderness into a long day hike, but the question is, why would you want to? The relatively easy hike into this high, alpine meadow country makes it possible for backpackers to get in, set up camp, then spend time rambling through the endless fields of flowers, soaking in the sun-drenched meadows and taking in the sprawling vistas all around the basin. Large native trout dart through the region’s rivers and lakes, ready and eager to latch onto a fisherman’s fly. Nonanglers (including canines) can enjoy cooling off in the deep pools of the rivers or the crystal waters of the lakes. And late season hikers will soon realize that the best fall colors in the state can be found in the heart of the Pasayten.
