This is a spectacular drive to an abandoned fire lookout. Tremendous views of the Middle Fork Applegate River and the Red Buttes. Slow, occasionally steep gravel road. Devil’s Climbout, just past Whiskey Peak, is a terrific drive that looks scarier than it actually is.

Mileage posted in the guide is a little off and it took me a little while to find the trailhead. I took my two boys, 4 and 6, and we had a great hike. The trail can use some maintenance, as we had to squeeze through bushes in teh middle of the trail. The views from up top were amazing. My boys liked the remains of a fire lookout and outhouse up top. We had a great time and look forward to doing this hike again.
