Wonderful trip. Works well as a day hike or a backpack. The terrain is so varied and beautiful. Overall an easy grade, with occasional steep areas, but these are very short segments, well spaced. The scenery that you get for the effort is continually rewarding. We did this as an early season backpack with 3 kids to the Lower Paradise Valley Camp site at 6.5 miles one way. The trail was well maintained and easy to follow even in some mild weather. The trail is also well marked. A great trip.
Marvelous experience...paradise expresses it well: a land of an alternately cascading and be-calmed river (S. Fork of the Kings) passing through groves of towering pines and firs and flower-full meadows. Trail is well maintained and has relatively gentle grades in the long climb toward Rae Lakes.
