Originally, the Williamson Creek mining road crossed the Sultan River on a concrete bridge and followed the creek for 4.5 miles, to the backside of Big Four Mountain and Marble Pass. When Spada Reservoir flooded the bridge, a cliff-hanger road was built on the north side of the reservoir, with grand views looking down on the lake (reservoir) surrounded by high hills. After 7 tortuous miles, the road descended to Williamson Creek and views of glaciers and peaks. Unfortunately, when the road was decommissioned, numerous culverts were removed, leaving huge holes in the road that must be climbed into and then out of again.
