This is dramatic forested country that is easily accessible for the casual visitor. Roads open to beautiful mountain valleys and forested hillsides. The valley drive offers remote wild and scenic river encounters, views of streams and forested mountainsides. Today, the road is drivable to the end and probably it is more appropriate for mountain bikes than it is for hikers. New forests are masking scars of former clear-cut areas. The roadbed is a typical Forest Service road that has not seen recent maintenance. There are ruts and spots where even a four-wheel-drive vehicle would want to slow down. It is a long drive to achieve adequate elevation for views of distant mountain ranges.
