It would be hard to beat the views of the glaciers on Eldorado seen from the access road as it climbs 2200 feet from the Cascade River to the end of the drivable road at 3200 feet. However, walking the gated road opens up terrific views of 7435-foot Snowking Mountain. From the parking area, an obscure trail descends to La Rush Lake and climbs to Bear Lake at an elevation of 3695 feet. Both lakes are surrounded by forest. For views, and that is what this trip is all about, walk past the gate on Road 1551. In /4 mile is a rock quarry. Find an old bulldozer route circling around the bald knob for views north and south and into the Cascade Pass area. This would be an ideal place to spread out a map while eating lunch. But don’t stop here too long, for the farther one goes, the better the views get of Snowking.
