As with Mount Si, this route gives you a wonderful quad workout, but with fewer people to encounter on the trail. The trail gains 3700 feet of elevation in 4.4 miles. There is a level section on the Iron Horse Trail in the first mile, and a level to slightly descending section near the butte. It’s good training for continuously steep, long runs, as with some segments of the Western States 100 Endurance Run.
