This 10-mile route is entirely runnable. In the winter it is a combination of cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails. It is partially shaded and at a slightly higher elevation than Winthrop, making it a little cooler than the valley for summer running.
The trail heads west out of the parking lot (A). Turn left onto Cabin Trail, and follow it a short way past cabins to Patterson Lake Trail (B). Go left and follow Patterson Lake Trail for 2.6 miles as it curves along the lake. This lake is also nice for a cooling dip on a hot day. I recommend picking up a Methow Valley Trails Association “Winter Trails” map so that you can easily see the trail names in case you find yourself on one not mentioned here.
