It’s huckleberry-picking time—don’t miss it. These delicious berries are produced in abundance in many locations around the state. One of the best is near Trout Lake, in southeastern Washington. This site is a traditional berry gathering area and is commemorated with a monument and signs telling of the history of the fields. The areas open for public gathering are on the west side of the road; watch for pullouts and a public rest room.
