Visit Hurricane Ridge to see gorgeous meadows of wildflowers, dramatic sunrises and sunsets, scenic mountain views, and close-up looks at black-tailed deer fawns and baby marmots. If you want to experience it all, drive up to Lookout Rock Vista before sunrise to catch the predawn glow. Then watch the sunrise over the Strait of Juan de Fuca with the rolling foothills of the Olympics spread out before you. Scattered clouds create drama; fog is soft, with foothills rising out of the mist in subtle, delicate patterns. Continue up Hurricane Ridge Road to the top, stopping to see more views, wildflowers, and deer along the way. Deer at Hurricane Ridge are not tame, but they are accustomed to humans.

I HIGHLY recommend Hurricane Ridge after a great experience this past weekend. Although the weather was quite chilly, the hikes, wild life, and flowers were outstanding! On several occassions we encountered deer along the trail. They are obviously comfortable with people because many of them were within 15 feet or so and continued to eat even after seeing us. Our pictures turned out great! We stopped in the visitor center in Port Angeles and again at Hurricane Ridge for hike suggestions. The people working at both visitor centers were very helpful. Hurricane Ridge is definitely worth the drive or ferry trip coming from Seattle. We will certainly make a weekend trip to the north Olympics again soon.
