Journey to Washington’s coast for a good chance to see sea otters bobbing on the water like furry corks, often eating from their “tummy tables.” Be patient when searching for sea otters. Catching sight of the gregarious animals is worth the effort. They are often very active—floating on their backs and moving their feet. You can sometimes see them with the naked eye; with a spotting scope, you have an even better chance. A hint on spotting the floating groups or “rafts”—look for sea gulls hovering above in hopes of scavenging food.
