This excellent loop trip explores the less-well-known northeastern Olympic Mountains. While far from arid, this part of the range is drier than the peaks to the west, so there are no glaciers or grand rainforests on this trip. You will enjoy, however, many miles of high ridges with fine views, lovely streams, lots of flowers, plenty of wildlife, and a greater degree of solitude. The hike has several steep sections and one high, snowy pass to worry about, but the fine scenery is ample compensation. The loop is equally scenic in either direction, but is described clockwise to avoid a long, tough uphill at the end of the trip.
