The trail climbs gently, making three switchbacks, then winds up to an interpretive sign about stumps. Half-buried logs, penstemon and fireweed line the route. Pearly everlasting flowers crowd this part of the trail in August. After the trail makes a switchback to the right, Coldwater Peak looms ahead. The Spillover, where the Debris Avalanche crossed over the top of Johnston Ridge, can be seen to the east. Beyond The Spillover is Harry’s Ridge.
