This spectacular, nearly 90-mile loop completely encircles Mount Rainier, presenting a challenge to the ablest hiker and a comprehensive taste of Mount Rainier. This hike involves dramatic elevation changes, taking you from the calm of old-growth forests to the openness of subalpine meadows with breathtaking views of Mount Rainier. Historically, the western part of the park experiences numerous washouts due to glacial outburst floods. Footlogs across rivers or streams originating from glaciers frequently wash out. The National Park Service does not advise fording glacial rivers due to the high concentration of debris and the risk of large glacial boulders in the water.

This is the ultimate trail for any backpacker. Old ancient forest opening up to grand views of Mt. Ranier, meadows full of wildflowers and serious elevation gains and losses. Very well marked with great campsites. Take time to plan entire hike as this is a very popular trail and reservations for sites are a must. If doing in July bring lots of bug juice.
