A difficult ascent to the serene waters of Mystic Lake that traverses a variety of landscapes. At first the trail takes you through a low-elevation forest that opens up when the trail skirts the silty Carbon River in its rocky riverbed. The trail continues, taking you along the magnificent Carbon Glacier and through a high-mountain meadow.
From Ipsut Creek Campground, follow the small connector trail south to the Wonderland Trail. The Ipsut Falls spur trail intersects to the right (southwest) shortly after you leave Ipsut Creek Campground. If you desire, take this spur trail to gently cascading Ipsut Falls. From the spur trail, continue traveling southeast to the Wonderland Trail.
