This popular three-hour loop descends from subalpine forest, through a mountain meadow, along Mazama Ridge to the aptly named Reflection Lakes, then up a steep pitch to the trailhead parking lot. The Lakes Trail begins in the most popular tourist area of the park. After parking in the Paradise Inn lot, follow the well-marked trail from the northernmost part of the parking lot. Start hiking to the right (east), following the signs that read Skyline Trail. Parking at the Paradise Complex can get really hectic. Watch for a flashing sign when you enter the park that indicates whether the parking lots at Paradise are full, a common scenario on weekends from 11:00 A.M. until early evening. You can hope for a vacant spot, but if one does not open up promptly, consider an alternative hike.
