A long, round-trip day hike or a two-day, round-trip backpack in the North Fork Umatilla Wilderness. The grade is steep at times for the first portion of the trail, but then it levels off some as you hike across Ninemile Ridge. From the ridge you’ll see that the 20,144-acre wilderness is a land of extremely steep, timbered canyons and plateaus decorated with native bunchgrass and an occasional tree. Special attractions: Magnificent views; solitude, except during fall hunting season; wildlife; wildflowers.
