Take a short, easy trail to a cluster of five lakes, the most accessible in the Indian Heaven Wilderness. It’s a great place to swim and catch fish and offers any number of good campsites. (This would be an ideal hike to start a week-long vacation with small children, exploring the Indian Heaven Wilderness.) The trail is fine up to Thomas Lake, but beyond that, the horse riders, traveling while the ground is still soft from melting snow, have turned the tread into quagmire. Once turned to mud, the trail isn’t passable again for hikers until after a month of dry weather.
