A stunning panorama of South Cascades peaks will reward families for this short steep hike. If you wish for a high campsite on a windless summer night, you could not improve on Hamilton Buttes. Picture moonlight and starlight on three icy volcanoes. A lookout once presided over this majestic scenery, watching for forest fires. Today airplane surveillance has replaced the lookout, but families who hike to this spot can pause, marvel, and enjoy the glorious view for as long as they wish. Carry water because there is none here.
