A ridge walk offers gorgeous views widening into sweeping panoramas on a clear day as you and your children climb upward to a little summit peak. Mountain goats have occasionally been seen on nearby ridges. The path along the ridge has borders of meadow flowers and glimpses of two alpine lakes below its north side, but the views of Mount Rainier directly south are overwhelming. Some of the switchbacks seem to lead directly toward it. Ask if your children can see a climber’s track to the summit in the ice and snow. They will begin to dream of climbing the mountain, too.
