This easy 4-mile loop hike will lead you through one of the peninsula’s true old-growth rain forests in the Olympic National Forest’s lower Quinault River Valley. Along the way you’ll pass impossibly large trees blanketed in mosses and draped in delicate hanging epiphytes. The soggy western slopes of the Olympic Mountains boast ideal growing conditions for temperate rain forest. The two primary environmental influences creating these conditions—abundant precipitation distributed throughout the year and moderate temperatures with little annual variation—are found from southeastern Alaska to northern California.

Trail was a bit overgrown in some areas on the trail, but to be expected in a rain forest. Still passable, machette would have been nice to help clear out trail as you go in these areas but not necessary.

A must if you are at the Lodge or near the lakeIt offers wide trail well marked and you can meander intothe Wilds of Bob Wilderness. We walked in about 2 hours and the solitude and openess of the surrounds are soothing. You can cut it short and there is a nice waterfall and stream on the way back This is a Kid friendly walk we did it late afternoon and we were alone but for one lone hiker it gets busy on the weekends

This is a great short hike if near quinault area. Very beautiful hike. This hike can also be extended up to 12 miles if wanted. I longer hike takes you along Quinault lake. Very good.
