This is an amazing hike, go light if you can, the 80 lbs packs were not fun. The first 8 miles are up hill with a 2500 ft elevation gain. Once you hit the summit it should be smooth sailing as you wind down the trail into the valley. You overlook Frog Lake.
Frog lake had some good campgrounds but we continued to the base of the chain lakes. Plenty of camp spots to choose from.
The fishing was great although the fish are a bit smaller in the Boulder Chain lakes. You should catch just enough 10-12 inch fish to make a great meal. They bite as soon as your fly hits the water. Frog lake has the bigger fish although it is a much slower pace. I'll post the photo's on trails.com.
Did I say pack light?
From a beauty standpoint this is a 5, from a hiking standpoint this is a OUCH. What a 4 day hike this was. We did a 25 loop and was above 10k feet 4 times. We also went from Born lakes over Devils slide and that was an adventure as well. I thought I was in good shape... haha... The skeeters were rough and the horseflys made it exciting as well. Great 4 days and the most miles to date we have covered.
