This is an incredible loop. Be sure to take a camera, and try to be at Alice and Toxaway lakes at sunrise or sunset. There are several possibilities for much longer figure-eight or through hikes by crossing the pass north of Toxaway to Imogene or Edna lakes.
This was my first time up in the sawtooths and all I can say is WOW!!!!!! Gorgeous mountains and pristine lakes full of fish. The trailhead was easy to find from the description, and everything went swimmingly. We camped the trailhead on fri and started hiking on Sat. We camped Petit Lake Sat night and came back sun, which worked great. We had plenty of time in the afternoon at Petit to relax and cook. The only advice i might have is if you bring dogs, bring some shoes for them for the hike back. There is an area after the summit that you are bouldering over sharp rocks, and both the dogs we brought were limping after that. Enjoy!
This was my first back pack experience. It was an awesome Hike. I would highly recomend it. Beatiful!
