There were six in our hiking party, ranging in age from 12 to 70, all hardcore hikers. We all agreed that this hike is in the top five all-time best hikes we've made. It has everything: interesting terrain, wonderful vistas, clean fresh air, friendly fellow hikers, and enough of a degree of difficulty to savor arrival at Sawtooth Lake as an appropriate reward. What a wonderful hike. And it didn't hurt that I caught a matched set of half-pound brook trout in about five casts at the lake.
a day hike that feels like an adventure - we even got to do some sledding when we hiked this in july! beautiful scenery - only a few other hikers
Wow. This was incredible. I will say that reaching Alpine Lake was a bit more majestic than Sawtooth. Sawtooth was incredible because of the elevation, size and just the thought of where it is located, but Alpine Lake was a prettier lake to look at. The hike was hard, but I took along a 13 and 10 year old and both of them did great. All in all I highly recommend this hike to anyone. The views of the Sawtooths took our breath away.
