This trail features one of the area's best waterfalls in the Sierra foothills. The little-known Spenceville Wildlife Area is directly east of Beale Air Force Base and the town of Marysville. This is classic Sierra foothill country, with verdant oak woodlands, open meadows, and jungle-like riparian habitat. It’s all green splendor in the spring, but a bit dry and plagued with stickers the rest of the year. During spring flows, Shingle Falls (also know as Fairy Falls) forms a spectacular 100-foot-high falls. Much of the hike follows gated roads, but some single-track loop trail options add visual and topographical diversity.
