The Fay Canyon–Luther Creek Trail is one of the only routes at this end of Carson Valley where hikers, bikers, and equestrians can travel on a maintained trail from the valley floor up an eastside Sierra canyon. After a mile-long romp through sagebrush and forest, the trail generally stays a good distance away from Luther Creek on the way up Fay Canyon, so packing extra water would be a wise move.
Views up the canyon toward 10,630-foot Jobs Peak are quite impressive, made even more so in autumn when the aspen-lined drainage is ablaze with color. Additional views during the ascent include the agricultural ranchlands of Carson Valley with a fine backdrop from the Pine Nut Mountains to the east.
