Although not the shortest route to lovely Star Lake, this trip offers fine views along the way of Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe. The 18-mile round trip distance makes for a long day but helps in reducing the number of people you’re apt to meet along the trail. Once you surmount the first half mile of steep trail, the remainder is one of the most pleasantly graded sections along the entire 165-mile Tahoe Rim Trail.
