Very pretty trail. Not difficult. We weren't sure where the return directions would bring us out so we backtracked on the return.
Nice level walk along Sagehen Creek to Stampede Reservior, with lots of nice spots for lunch - no tables, but plenty of downed trees and stumps. A nice variety of settings, considering the relatively short distance - evergreen forest to alpine meadow, and despite the fact we were out on Memorial Day weekend, not overused. The only thing that keeps this trail from being absolutely perfect for younger children is the fact that there are no facilities or trash receptacles at the trailhead. It may or may not pose a problem for you, depending on your comfort level at packing out what can't be properly taken care of on the trail.
Expect to see dogs on the trail - our dog is super-sociable, so he really enjoyed that. Between the creek and backsides to sniff, he was in heaven.
Be sure to bring bug repellant -it's a bit marshy around the reservoir, and the mosquitos can be heavy. I'm uploading a few photos - should give you a feel for what the walk is like.
My daughter (11) and I loved this trail. We try to hike at least 3 to 4 new trails a year now that she is old enough to do more than a mile or two. It's has amazing views and is an easy hike to take up an afternoon with loved ones. I also am a n avid photographer in training.
If your looking for an easy hike with great views for anyone this is a great hike. Check out the pics I posted there are 5 of them.
