A hike/float through the Upper Black Box of the San Rafael River. This route offers canyoneering adventure in a striking canyon setting. The Black Boxes of the San Rafael River are located on BLM-administered lands in the northeastern part of the San Rafael Swell. These canyon segments possess spectacular scenery and geology, and provide a unique and challenging adventure. The narrow, deeply incised canyons meander through the Coconino sandstone, the oldest exposed formation in the swell.
