What a great, great hike! My husband and I got up early and started hiking by 7 a.m. Part of the trail was still in shade when we started hiking, so climbing to the summit of Wasson Peak was very pleasant.
The views from the summit were spectacular. Simply a must-do hike!
Bring PLENTY of water and sunscreen.
This one is my favorite hike in this part of the Saguaro National Park and I fully agree with the author that it is evenly scenic but with much less traffic than the Hugh Norris Trail. Especially in springtime when the wildflowers are blooming, the King Canyon offers spectacular views and a wide diversity of flowers, making the quite strenuous ascent to the intersection with the Hugh Norris Trail worthwhile. Not to forget the view from the peak. Returning using the Hugh-Norris Trail and the Sendero Esperanza Trail leads to different types of vegetation from sandy grassland to rocky areas, where only cacti exists. As a summary: Get your hiking-shoes and start!
