This is a great hike for the first five miles. Then it leaves the red rock canyon and enters into the burned and barren remainder of the hike. The trail is very lightly used from this point on and finding cairns and the trail is very difficult at parts due to this. The turnoff of Rock Creek is hard to find as well and if you are not careful you could end up on the Divide trail. Great views of the whole area though, wish I could have seen it before the fires. "Seasonal water" means just about never. BRING WATER!!! Had my first ever encounter with a mountain lion just after nightfall but was able to scare it off without incident. Great hike, just bring your entire water supply for the hike just in case and make sure you have a good topo map or GPS to keep on track.
