This highlight-laden stream-and-ridge loop starts at Big Creek, then heads up that scenic waterway past waterfalls and swimming holes to reach a pair of backcountry campsites. From there, climb to the state-line ridge, taking the Appalachian Trail (AT) to Mount Cammerer and its historic observation tower. A prolonged descent returns you to the trailhead. This long loop is excellent for backpacking year-round. If you’re doing it as a day hike, shoot for spring through fall for longer days.
