The Lost Pines were indeed nearly lost in the great fire of 2011, Texas’s worst wildfire, but replanting efforts have reinvigorated the forest, and fresh growth is everywhere. Much of the park remains closed, however, and with it half of the celebrated Lost Pines Trail. This shortened version, now called the Purple Trail, takes you to Harmon Road and back. Efforts are under way to reopen the rest of the trail, but no date has been made public.
