This was a fun hike. The weather was supposed to hit 97 by 10:00 am, so we got to the trailhead at around 5 am. The highlights of this hike were the trees and the views afforded by the peak and along the trail from about halfway up. Past the 2 mile mark, much of the trail is shaded by trees, so that definitely helps if the sun is hot.
Troop 103/VENTURA-CA did this as a day hike after car camping overnight at nearby Apple Tree Campground. An overnite like this is good for acclimation to the altitude.
Trail is in great shape. The views are awesome from the top. It's 4 miles of uphill via "beaucoup" switch backs. The hike down (with gravity assistance) makes this a great all around activity!
