This trail winds along a portion of the Little Missouri River, with outstanding views of waterfalls, wildlife, and hardwood and old-growth pine trees. The Albert Pike Recreation Area, located about 45 miles southwest of Hot Springs, is one of the most popular spots in the Ouachita National Forest.
The site is named after Albert Pike, who is remembered primarily as an officer of the Confederacy and a prolific writer. The countryside around Albert Pike Recreation Area is extremely beautiful, with the Little Missouri River, cascading waterfalls, rock outcroppings, scenic views, and swimming holes. And the hiking trails run right through it all.
