An easy little trot from the Kings Creek Picnic area. One very small and accessible area of the lake exhibits the bubbling gasses which give the lake its name. (Note: we returned to Cold Boiling Lake on 8/24 while doing the Bumpass Hell to Kings Crk Picnic area hike. The size of the bubbling area has visibly shrunk in size in just one month, as water levels lower towards the end of summer.)
Cold Boiling Lake Trail begins at the last parking lot for the Kings Creek picnic area. It begins with an easy uphill section and then levels off for the rest of the way to Cold Boiling Lake. It is very easy for all ages and the trail leads through an area of twisted pines that I think are White-bark pines. They naturally twist in various directions and shapes. The trail is partially in the shade and even though it was a hot day we hiked it, we were comfortable. Their are other trails that lead beyond Cold Boiling Lake, including a back way to get into the Bumpass Hell area if you want to continue hiking in this area.
