This is a loop hike on the lower rim of Boulder Mountain, a flat-topped mesa with a rocky cliff band several hundred feet high around its east side. The 11,000-foot top of Boulder Mountain is several miles wide and relatively flat. The mountain’s height creates a true alpine environment in the middle of southern Utah’s slickrock desert. It also creates is own weather. Hail, snow, and thunderstorms are possible throughout the summer months. Blind Lake lies at the base of the cliffs under the rim.
