This hike starts at a remote and beautiful section in the middle of the San Rafael Swell. The Chute of Muddy Creek has the feel of a technical hike: it has narrows with wall-to-wall water but no obstacles or rope work. Avoid hiking during high runoff periods, or after rains, when high water makes the hike more dangerous. In spring and fall the water is cold, so bring a wet suit. Remember that desert evenings cool off quickly, so get out before dark.
