The trail begins following an old 4WD road down a dry creek-bed for a little over a mile. Near the end of this section, the canyon walls rise on either side and begin to close in before a deep chasm suddenly opens up in the wash floor. The beginning of the crack is only a foot wide, but it quickly drops to about 20 feet deep. You can enter the canyon at various points, but descending right down the crack is the easiest. Just alternate between wedging your feet and your torso between the narrow walls, as you work down to the canyon floor. Once on the sandy bottom, you find yourself in one of the narrowest and coolest (temperature and quality-wise) slots anywhere. The walls quickly deepen to more than 100 feet.
