This hike meanders through the Giant Forest Plateau in the relative solitude of a secluded forest among numerous stands of giant sequoias. The trail passes several meadows with creek crossings. The hike begins on the heavily used Congress Trail, but soon leads away from the crowds. At Log Meadow is Tharp’s Log, a historic cabin with a stone fireplace built in a fire-hollowed sequoia. Every summer from 1861 through 1890, Hale Tharp lived in the hollow log while his cattle grazed in the meadows.
