This hike is a great loop through one of Northern California’s least-traveled wilderness areas. The trail makes stops at a picturesque lake and a mountain summit before traversing a long ridge, offering fabulous views of the coast range and beyond. The Yolla Bolly/Middle Eel Wilderness is home to abundant wildlife, including martens, mountain lions, and even the elusive wolverine. Terrain: Dirt path through dense forests, along exposed ridges, and across alpine meadows.
